Aim and Objectives
Aim: "to strengthen God's people in upholding a resolute Christian lifestyle that transcends the physical boundaries of the church by providing them spiritual guidance in accordance with the language bestowed upon them."To accomplish this task, our church pursues these objectives:
- Worship – To motivate all members of this church to convene for public worship on a regular basis and to educate them on the Word of God and its implications for daily life.
- Discipleship – To guide members of our church towards a more profound spiritual experience and to assist them in developing their spirituality in their daily lives by means of a systematic, focused, and multi-level study of the Bible.
- Fellowship - To instruct church members in fostering a sense of belonging to the Body of Christ and to offer a community where the love of Christ is manifested through mutual understanding, encouragement, service, forgiveness, and practical care.
- The Helping Ministry – To provide physical and spiritual care to church members in need, as well as to give newcomers a sense of belonging to the church and the community.

A Brief History of Calvary Karen Baptist Church
The history of Calvary Karen Baptist Church dates all the way back to 2006 when the first group of Karen families arrived in Brisbane’s northside. They were separated upon their arrival in Brisbane and assigned to different suburbs. They initially sought out churches to attend, as the majority of them were Baptists. However, due to language barriers, those Karen families were unable to participate in the service. As a result, those families attempted to locate one another, and once located, they began worshipping in one another’s homes. They walked to each other’s houses during that time period because they lacked their own transportation and, more importantly, did not know how to use public transportation.
However, the Lord provided them with some local friends, who arranged for them to worship in their language at Stafford Heights Baptist Church on Sundays. For several years, they worshipped together as a fellowship. In 2013, as the Karen population increased, they formed a church and named it Calvary Karen Baptist Church.
Initially, the Karen fellowship at Stafford Heights Baptist Church was led by elders rather than a pastor. However, following Sunday Zue’s arrival in Brisbane in 2009, he was appointed pastor of the fellowship. For several years, Sunday Zue served as a sole pastor. Joshua Lin relocated to Brisbane in 2012. After a year in Brisbane, he was chosen as the fellowship’s secretary. In 2013, the fellowship decided to incorporate as a church, and as such, they convened a committee to discuss the church’s name. The majority of committee members agreed on the name Calvary Karen Baptist Church. They decided a year later that standing alone was not prudent and planned to join Queensland Baptists.
They were accepted by Queensland Baptists and became a Phase 1 Church of Queensland Baptists on May 29, 2014. Joshua Lin served as the Church’s secretary for six years before being appointed associate pastor in January 2019 due to the Church’s growth.
Calvary Karen Baptist Church wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to Stafford Heights Baptist Church for allowing the Karen congregation to use their facilities for more than a decade. Additionally, Calvary Karen Baptist Church expresses gratitude to Queensland Baptists for allowing them to join Queensland Baptists.
